Just in time for the Summer Solstice, we’re celebrating one of our favorite Ferrari-Carano wines. Reminiscent of West coast sunsets, Rosé’s eye-catching color and mouth-watering flavors make it the undisputed superstar of summer sipping.
Though Rosé’s popularity is undeniable today, it hasn’t always been so widely embraced. Known as “blush” throughout the ‘80s and into the ‘90s, Rosé was disregarded by some wine drinkers, who considered it a lesser-quality wine. But serious wine lovers have always recognized the beauty of Rosé — as evidenced by Provence, which has built its reputation as a wine region on a wine that is as wonderful to drink as it is beautiful to behold.
Nor is Rosé a recent phenomenon. Far from being the new kid on the block, it’s actually one of the oldest known wine styles ever produced, with a history dating back 3,000 years. Early versions of this style were light wines produced by blending white and red wine — which is still the preferred method for producing sparkling Rosé (typically a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir). Other methods of producing Rosé include “saignée,” which involves bleeding off a portion of the juice from red wine and vinifying it separately; direct pressing, during which the juice has very little skin contact but still retains a hint of color; and limited skin-contact maceration, during which red grapes are pressed and left on their skins for a few hours or a few days, depending on how much color and tannin the winemaker desires.
Ferrari-Carano’s 2020 Dry Rosé is produced in the skin-contact style, primarily from Sangiovese grapes, with a little Grenache, Syrah and Barbera. This light, refreshing wine is ready for warm summer weather, but hey… we drink it year-round! With aromas of watermelon, cranberry, fresh-picked strawberries, pomegranate, raspberry and a touch of orange blossom, this gorgeous pink stunner is deliciously fragrant with crisp acidity and ever-so-slightly sweet.
This Dry Rosé should be served chilled and its versatility makes it an excellent companion to a myriad of summertime staples. It pairs well with seafood, like crab, salmon and grilled shrimp, as well as heartier barbecue fare. A charcuterie board filled with local cheeses and cured meats is an easy crowd-pleaser with Rosé.
Not to brag, but this wine won Double Gold at the San Francisco Chronicle 2021 Wine Competition. Celebrate summer and National Rosé Day with us and pick-up or order your bottles of our 2020 Dry Rosé today. Our Rosé will quickly become the star of your summer gatherings too.
