2005 Reserve Zinfandel - Dry Creek Valley [ $36 ]
The grapes for our 2005 Ferrari-Carano Reserve Zinfandel come exclusively from our estate vineyard in Dry Creek Valley, an area known for producing some of the world best Zinfandels. With delicious aromas of fresh raspberry jam, boysenberry syrup, hints of bubble gum and a touch of pepper, our Reserve Zinfandel has a concentrated palate of Bing cherry, ripe blackberry, spice and rich vanilla cream. Silky tannins round out the long, smooth finish on this delicious wine.
Vintage Notes
The Zinfandel grapes are dry farmed in a complex, deep, riverside clay loam soil interspersed with alluvial rock that yields a wine with impressive depth and concentrated flavors. A late March warming trend made for perfect bud break and a quick start to the growing season. A mild summer yielded grapes of wonderful balance with rich tannins and bright varietal characteristics. Harvest was completed in early October.
Winemakers Notes
This wine is composed of primarily Zinfandel, blended with a small amount of Petite Sirah. Upon entering the winery, the hand-harvested grapes were destemmed, hand sorted and then whole berries were fermented in tank before pressing. Individual lots were moved to barrels for malolactic fermentation, then blended and barrel aged in American and French oak for 18 months, allowing for the perfect balance of fruit, tannin, and oak.

Rhonda's Recipe and Pairing Notes
London Broil with Zinfandel Sauce
Our 2005 Ferrari-Carano Reserve Zinfandel is a food-friendly wine that pairs perfectly with meat dishes such as slow roasted pork, grilled lamb chops, duck, or spicy sausage. Try a Moroccan-style curry barbeque sauce with meats when grilling for flair, or pair the Zinfandel with various cheeses, such as Roquefort, Gruyere, extra sharp cheddar or Dry Sonoma Jack. |
